Finally got myself a new pistol

As some may know, constitutional concealed carry is coming to the state of Kansas come July 1st. Makes me really glad I waited on getting a concealed carry permit, because soon I won't need one. The only problem is my current hardware proved to be too big for comfortable concealed carry.

So I solved that problem by getting myself a Bersa Thunder in .380 ACP. It's a lot easier to carry, easily slips into a cargo pants pocket discretely. I'm hoping to get out to the range and test it as soon as my spare magazine comes in.

Congratulations on the new pistol. Been to the range with it yet? How about a report of it?
Seems to me that most folks wanna talk bad about Bersa and the .380 cartridge.
I ain't one of them. If the gun works and works for you great. And there is noting wrong with the .380 in my opinion. Placement and volume works!
I'm afraid that there's been no such luck. The owner of the quarry we've always used died not all that long ago, and the property has been sold to someone who doesn't want anything to do with us. Currently I'm SOL when it comes to shooting.

I reckon the former quarry owner was a friend too. If so sorry about your loss. And now without a place to shoot that just doesn't help at all.
Okay it's been a while, and I sadly haven't gotten the opportunity to test out my Bersa yet. That sucks.

In the meantime I've been wanting to polish the feed ramp, but since the barrel is attached to the frame it's kind of difficult. I'm wondering if I can tap out the pin, remove the barrel, polish the ramp, and reassemble it again.
I would not do that. Leave it attached and tight. Polish as best you can where it is or don't do it.

Probably a very good idea. Be a real shame to damage a pre-key lock Bersa, seeing as they can only grow rarer.

What about the magazine disconnect? Would you recommend disabling that useless feature?
I remove them from my Hi Powers.

That's good enough for me. I don't care if California likes it, I don't need that worry in a defensive pistol of mine. One less thing to go wrong.

Not to hijack but...... this is a defensive handgun or should have been (rotten fun sucking BATFE)

Except there's a lack of qualty 28 gauge ammo set up for self defense rolls.

Also, much as I hate to defend them, the ATF didn't kill the Raging Judge. The prototype was cleared by them for importation for SHOT Show, otherwise it never would've made it into the country.

Thanks Becks!!! I don't like bad information, I dislike spreading even more!
Though if only it had been. What fun I would have had and still be having.

Assuming fun can be had with Taurus that is...

Yep, I understand.
But I will say that my .357 Tracker has thousands of rounds through it and 12 years of service. My PT145 has thousands of rounds through it but only 4 years of service.
Not defending Taurus just the two I own.
Would like to give a Raging Bull 454 a whirl someday.

Well lots of luck with that endeavor. Personally I'll never touch another Taurus after having watched the video of the Taurus revolver being shot, and the barrel flying right off the frame. I get that factories can occasionally turn out a lemon that never should've left the factory, but that goes well beyond lemon territory. For something like that to even occur, I'm pretty sure it would require a barrel and frame mismatch, with one of the two parts having no threads whatsoever, and someone at the factory deciding that they'd just epoxy the two parts together and call it good enough.

That or the steel being used was of such poor quality, it couldn't withstand actually being used at the threaded portion.

Well being that I also own and shoot a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag. I suppose I am a magnet for revolvers that shoot their barrels off.
I wonder what the BC, SD and penetration of the barrels are? Might have to make a Mannequin or 3D Target of Truth and do some testing:D.
And the follow up to video #3.
Well that's just a crying shame. I really wanted to own a Ruger Redhawk one day. But if the barrels flying off is a regular occurrence I may have to look elsewhere. I might actually have to consider the S&W 29 and 629 series. They go for around the same price as the Redhawk on auction sites if you know where to look, and what model you're looking at.

Back on the subject of Taurus bashing though, they're pretty much Saturday Night Specials in their own right, considering all of the quality control issues they've been having. They might have better materials, calibers, and safety features included in them, but that doesn't really change anything.

Okay:cool:
In other news unrelated to Taurus bashing, I'm thinking about dressing up my Bersa a bit. I'm thinking about getting some wooden grip panels, and a stainless steel finish slide to make it look a bit classier since I'm not a huge fan of the duo-tone finish.

The only problem with that approach is most stainless slides I'm finding specify that they're intended for the model without the firing pin block, and I don't know what to look for on mine to know if it's a compatible model or not. And a new slide from the factory costs about half of what the Bersa cost me to begin with.

I am not so sure I want to play anymore if your not going to continue to bash some of my hand guns:D

Concerning your Bersa could you possibly call the company to find out what the difference between the firing pin block and non block models?
What about removing the finish on the slide and just polishing it yourself. Would be a bit of elbow greased used but I suspect you would do a good job and it would look mighty spiffy.
