I have made the SHOT Show for many years. It is a great place to see all the new guns and other stuff that are available every year. This year the show was in Las Vegas, and I and my friends Ted and Liem all went. We had a blast.
I thought you guys might want to see some of the stuff we saw.
The SHOT Show stands for the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show, and is the biggest gun-related show in the world. It is not really for the average customer, as you can't buy individual items there. It is for large buyers to see what the big names have that is new and available. What the big guys like Remington, Glock, Springfield, Colt, etc., are looking for is for a buyer from Academy, for instance, to see what is available and place an order for 7,000 of these and 5,000 of these.
But I go as a member if the "Press", basis The Box 'O Truth. I don't buy anything, but I see what is available to possibly evaluate and post about on here.
Here are a couple of pictures I took to just show the size of the show and the size of the booths of the big manufacturers.
Another one. I also enjoy seeing friends from other parts of the country I met up with the Avila family and had a great visit with all of them. They are the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. They treated me like a long-lost brother. I also got to visit (too briefly) with my buddy Wave. It was just great.
I also see some "famous" people there. This year I saw a guy that I had met last year. He is Sammy Lee Davis, a Medal of Honor recipient. If you want to read about a real fighting man, read his citation here. After I took this picture and talked to him for a while, a man pushed his father up to us in a wheel chair. The old man was a Marine vet from Viet Nam and wanted to meet Sgt. Davis and shake his hand. Sgt. Davis knelt down and let the son take a photo of him shaking the hand of the old vet. Great men are great in many ways.
We stopped at the KelTec booth to look at the new guns. I looked at a PF-9 in 9mm, which only weighs 12.7 ounces. It is very flat and ought to conceal easily. I hope to get one for evaluation, and I will report on it here.
We also saw the new KSG (KelTec ShotGun)
It is an ingenious design, with two tube magazines on a bull pup-type shotgun. It is only 26.1 inches long, yet has an 18.5 inch barrel. Looking down that big bore with two mags is impressive. Expected MSRP is $880.
While at the Keltec booth, I ran into my old buddy Billmanweh and had Ted take a picture of us. He's the tall one, I'm the good-looking one. Shortly after this picture was taken, Bill and I got into one of our usual big arguments and went to fist city and it took 8 men to drag me off of Bill. Okay, maybe not.

It was actually really nice to finally meet up with Bill and he is a great guy.

At the Smith & Wesson booth, we admired several of the "old new" pistols, such as this N-frame in .45 Long Colt. What a beautiful pistol.
I could hardly believe it, but S&W has come out with a "new" pistol called the Governor Here it is. It shoots .410 shells, .45 LC, and .45ACP shells in a revolver. I wonder where they got that idea?

I guess they just couldn't let all those sales get away from them.
But they had several new 1911 pistols that have a bobbed and curved grip on them that are really beautiful and feel great in the hand. Here's one in two-tone.
And another full-sized in blue.
I always enjoy looking at the Perazzi shotgun display. They had a four gun set, in 12, 20, 28, and .410, for only $380,000 for the set.
Look at the wood in this 28 gauge shotgun. I told Ted, "I bet if you start to slide this one out of the case, the quail will just give up and start falling out of the sky from fright."
Colt had their usual display of beautiful 1911s. There is just something about a high-polished 1911 that I love.
They also had several custom guns made for the 100th anniversary of the 1911 design.Here's a couple.
They were going to be sold and the money donated to the NRA Foundation.
I was surprised to see that Remington now has a 1911 for sale. It is very well done, and this model has a high-res front sight that is excellent and easy to pick up.
At the Springfield booth we looked at a new 1911 in 9mm, called the EMP 9mm, Compact Light Weight. It was a real sweet pistol and weighed almost nothing.
At Ruger, we saw the new LC-9, which is a light weight (17.1 oz.) 9mm that holds 7 +1. I bet it will be a great carry piece.
We also found a very interesting double rifle imported by U S Sporting Goods Inc. It is a double barreled .45-70 rifle, a Baikal MP221.
The problem with double rifles is that regulating the barrels costs a fortune in manhours and skill. They solved this problem by having one "fixed" barrel, and the other can be regulated by the owner by adjusting a screw between the barrels. You can see the fixed and adjustable barrel here. By doing it this way, they got the price to below $900. I wouldn't mind having one.
They had a raffle for a Chuck Mawhinney rifle, which is a reproduction of the rifle Chuck carried in Viet Nam. I bought a ticket, and am waiting with my fingers crossed.
They also had challenge coins for sale.
And a mission box full of memorabilia on an auction. All proceeds go to buy gear to send to our snipers in the sandbox. It is a very worthy cause..
Conclusions:
Well, we walked about a hundred miles and had a great time. I met a lot of nice folks from AR15.com, and from all over the country. If you ever get a chance to attend the SHOT Show, don't miss it.
